These Brown Sugar Brownies are great alternative to chocolate-based brownies. Very easy to make and certified hit among sweet lovers, you can’t go wrong with these treats. If you want chewy bars, simply under bake them. For a more cakey texture, bake them a bit longer than the indicated cooking time.
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened to room temperature
2 cups packed dark brown sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup pecan pieces
Confectioners’ sugar for sprinkling (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and brown sugar. Add eggs and mix thoroughly until sugar is dissolved. Add flour and baking powder, and mix until incorporated. Stir in vanilla and nuts.
Pour batter into prepared baking pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until desired texture is achieved. Cool in pan for ten minutes before cutting into squares. Sprinkle top with confectioners’ sugar, if desired.
Store leftover Brown Sugar Brownies in air-tight containers.
